Dave Rothwell became interested in photography early in life as his father was an avid camera buff. Dave grew up watching his father develop his own Cibachrome prints from color slides from a darkroom he had built in their family home. Dave became hooked on capturing his own images after his father gifted him his very own camera upon graduating high school. After years of studying his father’s processes, Dave enrolled in the Selkirk College photography program and soon took over his father’s dark room. Dave’s passion for capturing images combined with his love of mountaineering and outdoor adventure allows him to repeatedly stop time in the wilderness. Live stage performance, product and studio, commercial and fashion shoots complete Dave’s already impressive portfolio, with his passion truly being wildlife and the great outdoors.
Dave’s appetite for adventure is what whetted his desire to focus in wildlife imagery.
“From the small ground squirrels and marmots to the massive bull elk, I was immediately drawn to these creatures and would often spend hours out in a meadow or along a rocky trail just enjoying watching whatever creatures crossed my path.” Dave’s travels continue to take him places in search of some of Canada’s most iconic wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, elk and moose , with owls being one of his most passionate photographic pursuits around the Okanagan.
Dave has had work published in several magazines and books including Okanagan Life, Our Canada, WestWorld, Beautiful British Columbia and Canadian Geographic.
Future plans for Dave include trips to Alaska, Eastern and Arctic Canada as well as overseas, and of course beautiful British Columbia.
All images are available in a wide variety of papers, canvases and sizes. Custom framing also available. Contact Dave at dave@daverothwellphotography.ca for information on rates and pricing.
